SBD-5 Dauntless 2060mm (81") Wingspan - ARF from Nexa - NXA1011-001
The Douglas SBD Dauntless is a World War II American naval scout plane and dive bomber that was manufactured by Douglas Aircraft from 1940 through 1944. The SBD ("Scout Bomber Douglas") was the United States Navy's main carrier-based scout/dive bomber from mid-1940 through mid-1944. The SBD was also flown by the United States Marine Corps, both from land air bases and aircraft carriers. The SBD is best remembered as the bomber that delivered the fatal blows to the Japanese carriers at the Battle of Midway in June 1942. The type earned its nickname "Slow But Deadly" (from its SBD initials) during this period.
The Nexa SBD-5 Dauntless is a 26 – 33cc size electric or gas option scale series warbird with a 2060mm wingspan, constructed primarily from balsa wood and covered with a fuel-resistant covering. This ARF requires assembly and installation of your choice of servos and power system, and includes flaps, painted pilot, machine gun, antenna and other scale details. The large battery hatch affords ample room for either electric or gas setups. Impress at your flying field with this iconic stunner!

It looks great, it is light and strong and seemingly indestructible. Mine however arrived with a vert stab broken at the base but it was easy to fix with some CA. BUT FIRST - tear off and throw away the control horns for the flaps and the airbreaks. They are junk. Find some or make some that do not bend and that mount all the way through the control services with screws and plates. And replace the ball clevises with some metal ones. And do not buy the recommended servos (hs82's) - find something will ball bearings and more torque. Pin these 5 surfaces before you glue them and make sure the control horns and clevis are how you want them. They are a nightmare to work on in place. This is a big plane and the airbrakes with the holes and red paint are super cool. If you use them wide open (you probably shouldn't) they look amazing but take a huge beating. These changes are cheap and will save you a lot of time. Do not use the precut radio pylon - it gets a lot of abuse so make one out of something else - I glued three pieces of 1/16 plywood together and got to whittling and you couldn't break it if you tried The supports for the landing gear doors need another solution - they will break the first time you land the plane - I ordered some collars from Sierra Giant Scale Products - they are more expensive per pound than saffron but the gear doors don't end up on the runway. Do not lose the decals or anything else that comes with the plane - MotionRc does not have any more. If something is missing when you buy it - send the whole thing back and get another one. I am missing a machine gun - and that is that. The model does not come with the three blade prop in the photo - nor is it recommended for the recommended motor - so what - buy the spinner and motor shaft from the Corsair 1600 (motion rc) and find someone with some machine shop skill and make it work - this makes the model look and sound cool even with the electric motor. Folks actually stop and say "that sounds so cool, like the real thing" Email me and I will send you a video. Buy it and go show off.

There are more pages devoted to building the bomb than anything else. The instructions really could be a little more detailed. The recommended gas engine won’t mount the way the instructions show but it can be done. Over all, Great plane and can’t wait to fly
